So with this weekends heat wave I think that summer has finally hit Portland. I'm not a fan of the hot weather, but I am a fan of busting out the Grill. It is now a Sunday ritual, we usually swing by Otto's and grab an assortment of Ground Meats, Sausages or Steaks and hit New Seasons for a sack of Vegetables. I'm done messing around with Store bought burger buns, they all suck! Even if you go to one of the awesome bakeries in town, its hard to get a good fresh bun. It took me a few dozen failed attempts, but now I have the perfect burger bun recipe and I wont ever go back to store bought buns.
The only bad thing I ever hear about Halibuts is that it's expensive, well, it is kind of expensive. When I go for lunch, I get a half order of Halibut and Chips and a bowl of Clam Chowder and it's about $15, but it's totally worth it. The menu has a ton of different types of Fish and Chips, everything from Copper River Salmon to Jumbo Prawns and everything that I have tried is worth the price. The Fish and Chips is certainly on my top 5 list and as of now, I can honestly say that the Clam Chowder has taken over the #1 spot for Portland Clam Chowder. They have opened Halibuts II next door that has live music 6 nights a week and a full bar, and if you go to Halibuts you will most likely meet the owner, I have never eaten at Halibuts and not had a conversation with him, he's a super nice guy and they are doing an excellent job. So, if you dig Fish and Chips or Clam Chowder, head on over to North East Alberta and give Halibuts a try
So this was my 4th session with Jason at Oddball and the Japanese piece he is doing on my right leg is really coming together. Jason kicks ass and I'm really stoked that I asked him to do this tattoo, it has turned out better than I expected, he designed a great piece and in about a month, it will finally be done.
He worked on the Koi this week and we decided to go with a Black and White spotted Orange Koi and he did an amazing job, I know he's good, but this fish is really amazing. Next time he is going to do the color on the Snake and touch everything up, I am looking forward to finally being done with it, I guess what I'm really excited about it starting to think about my next one.
I have already started talking about my next tattoo with Jason and am starting to picture it a bit so I am curious what his take on my idea will be, if it's anything like this Japanese piece, I know that I will be stoked. I am going to do a photo story about Portland Tattoo Shops this summer so if you have any Artists or Shops that you dig, let me know.

Honduras was great, the food was OK at times, but now I'm back in the swing of every day Portland life and looking forward to taking the Nikon out and snapping some Food and Tattoo shots. So this meal was at a hotel on a lake in Santa Barbara, everyone recommended the fish, so that's what I ordered. I think it was Talapia, I was told there were Talapia in the lake so I can only assume thats what ended up on my plate that day. It was fried with a thick crust and served with, you guessed it, Plantains and Beans, it also had some pickled Onions on the plate, a pretty typical meal for Honduras.
The Blue Pig Cafe is near the corner of 50th and Division in the old Gramma Lucy's spot. They are doing Breakfast and Lunch 7 days a week and by the looks of the menu, I'm sure they will be packed. A buddy of mine and I went for breakfast last week and I had to go for the Biscuits and Gravy, I have been known to judge a restaurant on the B&G and never return because they sucked, but that wasn't the case at the Blue Pig. By buddy went for Pancakes, Sausage and Poached Eggs, also tasty and huge. I haven't been back for lunch, but I expect Lunch will be just as good as Breakfast.
